Delta Upsilon Western Illinois Chapter
Founded April 27, 1974
Our chapter was founded at Western Illinois University in November of
1971 as a local fraternity called Lamda Tau Beta (Living in True
Brotherhood). The group was founded as a result of a number of men who
decided it was time to end the hazing included in becoming a brother in
a fraternity. The original idea came from a group of men from Tanner
Hall which was headed by a frustrated former pledge. At approximately
the same time, similar groups formed in Wetzel, Henninger, and Olson
Halls with the same purpose, to put an end to hazing. These groups
merged and formed the group that became a local colony. In the Spring
of 1974 the Western Illinois Chapter of Delta Upsilon was officially
recognized.
