Every member of the Western Illinois Chapter of Delta Upsilon had questions about the fraternity before they joined. We have come up with a list of questions prospective individuals who are interested in joining Delta Upsilon may have.
1. How much does it cost to be a DU? Here is the breakdown of membership dues for our chapter Pledge Semester: Pledge Dues: $155 After Pledge Semester: Initiation Fee: $200 (activation fee) Member dues (living in the house): $230 Member dues (living out of the house): $260 Room & Board Rent: $1240 Board(Meals): $830 Insurance Fee: $71.75 Damage Fee: $100
Total Room & Board: $2456.75 (member dues included) 2. Is there any hazing involved? No. Since Delta Upsilon is a non-secret fraternity, we are constantly dealing with outside scrutiny regarding to our actions. Hazing is something we feel very strongly against and do not see its purpose when joining. At no point, whatsoever, during your pledgeship will you ever have to worry about hazing.
3. How much time will DU take? Some individuals believe that pledging a fraternity takes all of your time away, this is simply not true. Most of the time Delta Upsilon will balance with whatever other activities you have. Some of your time is spent studying, which you already have to do to stay at school.
4. Is DU like Animal House? At Delta Upsilon, we generally spend more time studying and working on philanthropy than how to go about setting up the next social event. The Animal House era is long past. We are a leadership development organization based on brotherhood with solid principles. The key is to have fun and take something with you for the real world when you graduate.
